Where to Go This Summer? Yawgoog, Philmont, or Jamboree?

Well, now that you are just getting settled into the School Year, it’s time to think about Summer!! (Wha??).  That’s right, next Summer offers a whole host of activities that you can join.  But before you “Pack up your Duffle”, you and your parents have some tough decisions to make.  Some of your choices are:

  • Yawgoog – We always a great time at “The Beach”.  For those of you who have been there, Enough Said.  For those of you who haven’t, talk to a buddy or troop member who has and find out what it is about.
  • Philmont –  I believe that Mr. Rubesh has a couple of spots that just opened up for the 2017 trek.  I can tell you from personal experience that it is a once in a lifetime experience!  (twice if you are lucky).  There is an upcoming meeting on High Adventure Camps to learn more.
  • National Jamboree – I know there were a couple of scouts that said they might be interested in going to National Jamboree this year.  Suffolk County Council is taking a contingent to the National Jamboree at the Summit in West Virginia.  Click on the “Read More”

If you are thinking about doing any of these, you need to have long conversation with your parents, because none of these great opportunities are cheap.  Thank you.

Below is a message from Suffolk County Council

I know there were a couple of scouts that said they might be interested in going to National Jamboree this year.  Suffolk County Council.

  • If you are planning to go to Yawgoog, you would probably have to leave for Jamboree the day after you return from Yawgoog.  The dates for both would need to be confirmed.
  • If You are going to Philmont 2017, you would probably be leaving for Philmont the date you are coming back.  You would have to check with Mr. Rubesh concerning the dates.

National Jamboree July 17 – 28, 2017

For most Scouts the National Jamboree is a once in a lifetime event. This 11-day trip happens only once every four years. Click here watch a short video of what the jamboree has in store for you.

The Suffolk County Council will be sending 4 troops to the National Jamboree. Each troop consists of 36 Boy Scouts and 4 adults. Boy Scouts who would like to attend the Jamboree must be the rank of First Class by the time we depart for the Jamboree. You can sign up now even if you haven’t made the rank requirement yet!

We will also be sending 4 Venture Crews. Each Crew consists of 8 youth and 2 adults. Venturers are Boys and Girls ages 14-20. If you are interested in participating as a Venture Scout but are not registered in the Venturing program please contact [email protected]

The contingent will depart bright and early on Monday, July 17th. We will travel on four coach buses to Hershey Park.  Monday is spent at Hershey Park. All meals and park fee is included in the trip fee. When the park closes we will board our buses and head toward Gettysburg where we will spend the night in a hotel. Tuesday’s agenda begins with breakfast and then off to visit all that Gettysberg has to offer, the museum, the battlefields and more. We will all gather for a buffet dinner and then head back to the hotel for a good night sleep. Wednesday is the big day! We begin with breakfast and then off to the Summitt Bechtel in West Virginia. There we will spend 9 days living the Scout oath and Law and experiencing Scouting at its best! We will join tens of thousands of Scouts from across the country and around the world. The Price is $1,875 and it includes everything – all meals, fees, transportation, hats, shirts, patches and more. Don’t miss out on this opportunity or you’ll have to wait another 4 years!
Space in our contingent is limited so don’t delay sign up today!
