Hello Troop 349!
I just met with Scoutmaster Weisberg about the campout this weekeend, with regard to the rain events forecasted starting Satuday evening which include the words “thunderstorms with damaging winds”.
Last year we learned how poorly tents stake down in sand when there are high winds. We do not want a repeat, especially during the overnight and in the dark. And, the beach is wide open – definitely not a place to be during thunderstorms.
The plan is to camp Friday night, do the canoeing in the morning and the scouts do the fishing and games they planned for the afternoon and eat an early dinner. We will ask parents to pick up their scouts at 5pm Saturday night at Short Beach.
We will continue to watch the weather and if the storms pass through later we can stay there a little later.
If the forecast completely changes we can evalute the possibility of staying the night.
The Troop never likes to cancel camping nights because they are valuable to the path to Eagle. This is why we try to plan multi night campouts, in case we need to make changes.
Thank you for everyone’s support. We greatly appreciate it. Scouts, if you have any questions please reach out to your SPL. Parents can reach out to Mr. Weisberg or me.
