Troop Solar Eclipse Viewing

Hello Troop 349,

As many of you know the Troop will be at the Nesconset Armory tomorrow from 1:30-3:30 to view the solar eclipse. A few things to note are, that all scouts that attend will be eligible to receive the BSA 2017 Solar Eclipse Patch, and that if you wish to get this patch you will have to draw a simple diagram of the positions of the sun, earth and moon during a solar eclipse; we will go over how to, and do this at the armory. Also, scouts are responsible for bringing their own eye protection as you cannot look at the sun without some sort of protection under any circumstances, including during an eclipse. You can use solar viewing glasses with ISO 12312-2 certification, wielding goggles, or you can build your own shoe box viewer with some simple materials that you can use (we will have some extras there for everyone to share). Instructions to build your own will be in the link at the bottom of this post. Lastly we ask that if you are going to be attending please bring a snack, and a Nalgene/water. We also suggest bringing lawn/beach chairs or a picnic blanket so you have somewhere to sit.

~Verrell The SPL

P.S. The invitation to come view the eclipse is open to everyone, so if you have some family or friends who want to come they are happy to do so.
